Pretoria Avenue repairs leave residents without water for three days
Johannesburg Water delayed repairs at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Road, Ferndale, which have left residents without water for three days
Unfinished water pipe burst repairs have left residents in Ferndale, Randburg CBD and other nearby areas without water for three days.
The chairperson of the Ferndale Ridge Group, Pierre van Wyk, explained that the water went off in Ferndale for most of the streets on Tuesday morning.
“The weird thing was that it was from the high line near Bram Fischer Drive, all the way down to the Carreira Centre, and they all went off. Other areas like Robindale and Blairgowrie have had water all along. But right down into the Randberg CBD is still off. It still hasn’t returned this morning (July 3).”

On July 2, Johannesburg Water confirmed that their team has temporarily isolated the water supply at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Road, Ferndale. This was to allow the team to replace a damaged 450mm T-piece. As a result, customers in the affected areas may experience low water pressure to no water.
Affected areas include: Ferndale, Fontainebleau, Bryanston, Malanshof and President Ridge.

Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman confirmed that the entity is aware that there is no water supply, and this is due to the delays in the repairs. “There was a holdup due to failed equipment. The repairs should be complete today by 17:00 today (July 3).”
Questions on the issue were sent to Joburg Water and will be published once made available.
