South African Federation for Mental Health energises South Africa to advance mental health awareness

SAFMH begins 2026 ready to tackle challenges, raise awareness, and continue advocating for mental health, while supporting youth forums and meaningful community partnerships across South Africa.

As South Africa steps into 2026, the South African Federation for Mental Health (SAFMH) is ready to tackle new challenges and seize opportunities to keep mental health in the spotlight.

“Our commitment for the year ahead is clear,” said Michel’le Donnelly, communications and awareness lead. “We will continue to monitor the mental health policy framework, support the growth of our youth forum, and advocate for mental health at all levels.”

SAFMH also plans to contribute to reports, publications, and legislation, consolidate research on mental health, and maintain its helpdesk for those seeking support. Awareness campaigns, educational sessions, and online content will continue, including blogs, infographics, and life stories of people with lived experience.

The organisation is particularly looking forward to strengthening partnerships and shaping conversations around mental health within the community.

“We want to continue supporting and guiding important initiatives that make a difference,” Donnelly added.

Residents are encouraged to get involved by following SAFMH on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Additional resources are available on their website, and newsletters, like Empowered Minds, provide updates on campaigns and activities throughout the year.

“As we step into 2026, we thank all our supporters for standing with us. Together, we’ll keep building a future where mental health is valued, supported, and protected. Remember, there’s no health without mental health.”
