Resident urged to join in and support clean-up drive aimed at restoring Windsor
Windsor community to hold the first Ward 98 community clean-up drive of 2026, inviting all residents to come in numbers.
The Windsor community at large is invited to join in and support the Ward 98 community clean-up drive.
The first 2026 community clean-up, to take place on January 17, aims to address littering, illegal dumping, and general environmental neglect, and to encourage community responsibilities and unity.
Patrick Kule, ward committee representative and a resident in Windsor East, explained that this clean-up marks the beginning of a series of community led actions focused on restoring pride in their community and promoting collaboration between residents and local businesses.

There has been a lot of clean-ups and high impact service delivery projects in Windsor in recent years, but Kule believes that the upcoming clean-up will have more success, as its community driven, instead of a political campaign by government officials.

“Our clean-ups have shown what’s possible. We are expecting to be joined by Pikitup, the Randburg depot, local churches, and families. We encourage our locally based businesses to join and help in educating the community about proper recycling practices, proper waste disposal, and the importance of looking after our environment.
We will also engage with reclaimers who live on our streets.”
He further stated that most corners have become dumping sites, and the main challenge is the residential turnover of rentals.

“Every month, Windsor experiences movement from one rental unit to another. This creates a need to educate, maintain, and also ensure that discarded assets, like old furniture, are disposed of properly. We have observed an increase in illegal dumping, crimes, and lawlessness. This clean-up will promote a sense of ownership, and change the atmosphere in this community.”
He added that they are hoping to create a healthier living space, eliminate illegal dumping, and promote recycling activities within the residential complexes.
“We also want to foster a collaborative relationship between property owners, businesses, property agencies, and the government entities that are responsible for by-laws.
We also want to spread a clean city across the whole city of Johannesburg. We have done it before, with the community, and we can do it again, and make Windsor a liveable community.”
The community clean-up drive is on January 17. Meeting point is Beatrice Street and Dukes Avenue in Windsor East from 07:30 to 9:30.
