Blairgowrie unattended reinstatement gets worse
The reinstatement in the middle of Bend Street continues to cause frustrations for residents in Blairgowrie.
An unfinished reinstatement has resulted in more damage to the road, raising safety concerns as motorists drive in the oncoming lane to avoid damaging their cars.
The holes on Bend Street were the result of Johannesburg Water leak repairs. Although Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) carried out some of the work to reinstate the roads in October 2025, the entity did not patch all the holes, promising to come back and complete the work.
JRA’s Region B depot, in December 2025, admitted that they were aware of the uncompleted work, and that the reinstatements would be completed as soon as possible, with them still on their work in progress list.

Head of department for regional operations Khaya Gqibitole said that the repair schedule was interrupted by inclement weather, not conducive or desirable for asphalt.
He assured residents that the road was not neglected or ignored, appealing for patience while the matter was resolved.

However, Blairgowrie Community Association chairperson Harold Fleishman is not convinced, believing that they should have come back a long ago to complete the work. “They said they are running out of tar, and they are coming back, but they never did.
With all the rain, the hole is getting bigger and deeper, and has become impossible to drive on. This has created more damage and potholes because of the cars avoiding the reinstatement.”
