The Democratic Alliance (DA) has won the Ward 102 by-elections with a staggering margin of 94.8%.

The by-election drew steady participation throughout the day, with party volunteers stationed across the area encouraging supporters to make their voices heard.

As the day drew to a close, polling stations filled steadily. Across the ward, the atmosphere remained peaceful but charged with expectation.

When the polls finally closed after a long day, counting began under watchful eyes. Hours later, DA’s candidates Bea Campbell-Cloete won convincingly, cruising to victory with a commanding margin that left little doubt about the community’s choice.

She thanked the residents of Ward 102 for their trust and pledged dedicated service and accountability. She admitted that the elections had a few glitches. “Two voting districts changed their venues, which led to some scrambling to ensure voters knew where to go. Because this by-election was called and conducted very quickly, there was understandable confusion among some residents about who should be voting and at which station.”

Despite that, she said she was incredibly supported throughout the day. “Service delivery does not pause for an election. I still had to attend to ongoing ward matters, including an inspection of properties in Ferndale. That is the reality of local government. Residents rely on us every day. Our campaign team, colleagues, staff, volunteers, and both provincial and national leadership stood firmly behind me.

“My family carried me through. Most importantly, residents were phenomenal and patient, encouraging one another to vote, sending messages of support, and waiting with us for the results. I am deeply grateful to every single person who participated.”

The newly elected councillor shared that her focus will be on fighting for improved service delivery, getting stronger law and by-law enforcement, cleaning up and restoring public spaces, and creating an environment that attracts business, investment, and residents who are proud of where they live. “Ward 102 deserves to function properly. That is the mandate I have received, and that is exactly what I intend to deliver.”
