Bordeaux North residents call for timely repairs and secured sites after delayed water situation

Residents in Garden Road in Bordeaux North are demanding answers after a delayed response to a pipe burst caused major flooding, and Johannesburg Water left an open repair hole.

Residents in Bordeaux North have expressed frustration following a pipe burst on Garden Road.

The burst allegedly ran unchecked for nearly two days, flooding a home and leaving behind an open excavation site. A neighbour, who asked to be identified only as Colin, said water flowed continuously before it was eventually shut off. “The water ran for about two days before they switched it off. I was standing knee-deep in water and they couldn’t get it out.”

He said the prolonged leak resulted in extensive flooding throughout a house on Garden Road, with water spreading across the entire property. By the time the supply was cut, the damage had already been done.

While the water has since subsided, residents say their frustration centres on what they describe as a delayed response and a lack of communication about the repair process. Colin said there was no clear explanation for the delay or indication of what steps would follow after the pipe was repaired.

Adding to the concern, community members say a hole dug at the corner of the property during the repair work has not yet been filled in. The exposed excavation has raised safety fears, particularly for pedestrians and children who pass through the area.

Residents are now calling for faster turnaround times on emergency infrastructure issues and for repair sites to be fully secured and restored once work has been completed.
