Randburg AFC survived a tense second-half fightback from TS Galaxy on Sunday to claim a dramatic 3-2 pre-season victory that keeps their unbeaten run firmly intact.

Randburg made a bright start, taking the lead through a coolly converted penalty before doubling their advantage with a well-struck free kick. It looked as though Randburg were firmly in control heading into the break.

However, Galaxy emerged from the dressing room as a transformed side. Playing with high intensity, they were quickly rewarded with a well-worked team goal before Pabalelo Mpholo levelled matters at 2-2, setting up a tense finale. Despite Galaxy’s best efforts, Randburg found the net once more late on to seal a memorable win and remain unbeaten throughout pre-season.

Randburg coach Arthur Brooks was broadly pleased, particularly with the opening stages. “The first 30 minutes went very well,” he said. “The ladies were passing the ball around nicely, good interplay between the teams, and we scored two very good goals.” He acknowledged his side lost their shape somewhat in the second period due to rotation, but was satisfied with how his players responded. “I asked them to focus on winning their challenges and retaining possession. They listened and ultimately pulled it through.”

TS Galaxy coach Johannes Chipunza was equally encouraged despite the defeat. He noted that his squad has only been together for a month and that fitness remains a work in progress, but was proud of the character shown in the second half. “I was happy with the comeback,” he said, while admitting they were unfortunate to concede so late. Looking ahead, Chipunza made no secret of his ambitions: “We want to be promoted. The goal for the club is to get to the Premier League.”

Galaxy centre back Lehlogonolo Ramashala offered an honest assessment, highlighting a slow start as the main concern. “The first half was a bit slower, and then we got used to the performance in the second half.” She credited the coaching staff with making a crucial difference at halftime. “Coach motivated us that not every mistake can be a bad thing. He told us not to be afraid to make mistakes,” a message that clearly resonated, with Galaxy’s second-half display, a far cry from their hesitant opening.

For Randburg, the result continues a promising pre-season run. For Galaxy, though the loss stings, the signs of progress are there.
