Kruispad Church water leak repaired after six years

After years of complaints and repeated follow-ups, Johannesburg Water has concluded repairs to the long-running water leak at Kruispad Church in Ruiterhof, bringing ease to the church and surrounding areas.

An ongoing six-year water leak at Kruispad Church in Randburg has finally been repaired.
The leak, at the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Elise Road, has been affecting the church and surrounding areas for nearly six years, even after several reports and follow-ups by church leader Johan Kruger.

Johannesburg Water (JW) issued a series of statements in March about the progress of the repair. On March 4, the utility said technicians were addressing the fault, which required a specialist contractor.

Updates on March 18 and 19 stated that repair had started, with the water supply temporarily interrupted. Later, on March 19, while reopening the water supply and monitoring the system, a new leak was detected.
Areas affected during the repair included Randparkrif, Kellard, Windsor, Blairgowrie, Bordeaux, Randpark, Fontainebleau, Strijdom Park, Ferndale, parts of Randburg CBD, Kensington B, parts of Bryanston, and Moret. Residents were notified ahead of time of the temporary water interruptions.

Kruger expressed relief, saying, “I am happy that the extreme waste of precious water is now at an end, but it did take them coming back five times in the last two weeks to finally get to this stage of only a few drops. As far as being competent professionals, they did not make the grade. But yes, after six years of waste, it looks like it’s finally over.”
JW apologised to the church and the community for the inconvenience caused.
