Three months on, Bram Fischer Drive hole still unrepaired

More than three months after a road defect on Bram Fischer Drive was escalated to Johannesburg Roads Agency, the only response received is that a spokesperson is working on a reply.

A road defect on Bram Fischer Drive, near St Stithians College in Randburg, remains unrepaired more than three months after it was first reported.

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has yet to even provide a repair timeline. The Randburg Sun first reported on the issue in December last year, when then stand-in Ward 102 councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete confirmed she had escalated the matter to JRA, after receiving numerous complaints from residents about outstanding road reinstatements across the ward.

Questions submitted to JRA on March 31 were met with only a brief acknowledgement. JRA spokesperson Kelebogile Mafa said she was currently working on a response to queries about Bram Fischer Drive, but no further information was provided.

The large hole on the side of the road remains a safety concern, given its proximity to the school and the road’s high traffic volumes. JRA had previously indicated it would not proceed with reinstatement work if a leak was present.

Campbell-Cloete warned, in December, that there was a significant backlog of road reinstatements across the region, and that the councillor transition period had created additional challenges in tracking previous escalations.

At the time of publication, we had still not received any further communication from JRA, and the repair timeline had still not been confirmed.
