City deploys teams to fix Randburg water leak
Joburg Water teams are on site at Bram Fischer Drive after MMC Luyiso Masuku visited the area during Crum’s High Impact Service Delivery Programme on April 23.
Joburg Water teams have been deployed to address a water leak near the intersection of Bram Fischer Drive and Jan Smuts Avenue in the Randburg CBD after MMC for Public Safety and Environment Luyiso Masuku visited the site during Crum’s High Impact Service Delivery Programme on April 23.
Teams were immediately called in to assess the situation and began digging to identify the source of the problem.

Speaking at the scene, Masuku confirmed that ageing infrastructure was to blame. “It is ageing infrastructure that requires us to procure valves,” she said.
“The order has been made, and for now, a temporary solution has to be made where the teams actually are there to be able to close the valves.”
While the temporary measure will contain the leak for now, the MMC said a permanent fix would require a planned water interruption affecting parts of Randburg.
The city will consult with the local councillor before issuing a formal notice to residents so they can prepare accordingly.

“For us to do a permanent solution, the city has to issue a notice to residents because it will have water interruptions to certain aspects of Randburg,” Masuku said.
She added that the interruptions could last up to three days and that the permanent repair was expected to take place between the end of April and the beginning of May.
Residents in the affected area are advised to watch out for the official notice from the city regarding the planned interruptions and to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the repair work.
