PinkDrive honours nurses while promoting early cancer detection
PinkDrive combined International Nurses Day celebrations with a breast examination open day aimed at encouraging early cancer detection in Strydom Park.
PinkDrive hosted a clinical breast examination open day at its offices in Strydom Park on May 12.
The initiative focused on creating awareness around cancer screening and encourage community members and businesses around the area to take early detection seriously.
Noelene Kotschan, CEO and founder of PinkDrive, said the organisation’s mission remains focused on providing cancer screening services to medically uninsured people.
“The purpose of today’s drive is no different from any other drive, and that is to make sure that the women and the men who are medically uninsured can reach and have services for cancer screening.”
Kotschan mentioned that the most important thing is education around cancer, and what their motto stands for, which is: Early detection will prolong a life. So, the sooner individuals take the first step of going for screening the better.
The event also highlighted the role nurses continue to play in healthcare, as the world celebrates International Nurses Day. Kotschan added how thankful she is for their nurses.

“I would really like to thank all our nurses, whether they are full time employed with us or whether they are locums.
Without you, hospitals and clinics would never run, so you are the bone and you are the ones that are being celebrated today.”

One of the nurses working with PinkDrive, Monica Mokoena, shared how, while growing up, her grandmother was sick and wheelchair bound, she would take care of her most of the time, and that is where her calling of nursing was birthed.
“I really love being a nurse, to help those in need. Helping others helps me grow as a person.
“Getting screened is important, because, in certain stages, it really helps you. The earlier the better to detect if there is any cancer.”

She mentioned that she is honoured to be recognised and celebrated this International Nurses Day, noting that she is thrilled that their hard work is seen.
PinkDrive is available for both male and female individuals who may seek cancer screening. It is important to keep in mind that early detection could prolong a life.
