Parents and teachers came together to watch as learners showcased different talents, while genuinely enjoying the day. Learners competed in groups of four, namely the Tigers, Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs, each team cheered their teammates all day long as they participated in various activities, including cross country, short distances, rely, and tug-of-war.

Principal Kgethi Dlamini said seeing the children actively involved made her happy. It was a proud moment for the school as learners seldomly get to enjoy themselves. Parents played an important role by showing up for their children, truly giving them support and uplifting them as they took part in the different activities the event offered.

Rebecca Liremo, a parent, said that the school hosting the event is a very good thing for the kids, as it makes them happy and excited outside the classroom. “I see it as a good thing for the kids to be honest, so that they can get some exercise in.”

Liremo added that her reaction to her daughter running was really just a proud moment for her. “She is in Grade 2, and she came in position three. I was so happy. I came here with her brother to support her.”

Teachers, who also took on the role of coaches for each team, had similar views, noting that while the learners are competing against one another, their happiness, effort, and improvement remain the focus of the day. “By the look of things, I feel like we will go up a little bit, but whether we win or not, I will be proud of them,” said Andiswa Madikizela, the Leopard’s coach.
