Among the attendees was Thabo Gumede, a proud father who had come to support his nine-year-old son. He explained why it is important for parents to be involved in such events. “It is to give the kids courage for sports and school and to encourage them to attend school to get an education,” he said. Gumede added that it is of utmost importance that schools host events such as sports day because outside of school, children do not get to be involved in such.

The learners were grouped in four teams, namely, the Tigers, Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs. These teams competed against each other, allowing learners to engage in teamwork, team spirit and make friends.

“Generally, I can say they were trying their best even though there were some problems where some of them were slowing down before passing the finishing line, but above all, everything was fine,” she said.
Students from eta College volunteered their time to assist the school with the sports day to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

Student Kelebogile Seopa said events such as these were good for learners because they get to showcase their talents and discover things about themselves they never knew.
