Randburg police launch vehicle safety awareness drive

Randburg police are urging residents to be vigilant, particularly in the evening and early morning hours, as vehicle-related theft remains a serious concern in the area.

Randburg police are calling on residents to be vigilant, particularly during the evening and early morning hours, as vehicle-related crime continues to pose a serious challenge in the area.

Colonel Sipho Dlamini of the Randburg Police Station said while a detailed analysis of the specific locations most affected had not yet been completed, it was important that the community was made aware of the risks and took the necessary precautions.

“We just need to advise our community to be vigilant, especially in the evening and early hours in the morning,” said Dlamini.

One of the most common mistakes residents make, he said, is leaving valuable items visible inside their vehicles. Wallets, cellphones and other valuables left on seats or the dashboard are an easy invitation to opportunistic criminals.

Dlamini confirmed that tracking devices had proved helpful in several vehicle recovery cases, though he noted that some of the stolen vehicles had not been fitted with trackers, underlining the importance of installing such devices.

Residents are encouraged to report any crime to the police and to actively participate in the fight against crime. “Residents are advised to report any crime that is taking place and work together with the police in the fight against crime.”
