Randburg police probe murder after man killed in Ferndale carjacking

A 65-year-old man has died following a fatal shooting on York Street, with police searching for suspects after his vehicle was tracked down in Alexandra.

Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made after a 65-year-old man was fatally shot during an alleged carjacking on York Street in Ferndale on September 3.

The incident occurred at about 18:15, with the victim found with gunshot wounds and certified dead at the scene. His BMW X5 was reportedly hijacked during the incident and was later recovered in Alexandra.

SAPS Johannesburg district spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshethlane said a case of murder and carjacking has been opened at the Randburg Police Station. “Police investigations are continuing.”

She appealed to community members to come forward with any information that could assist investigators. “Community members with information regarding this incident, or anyone who may have information that could assist with the police investigation, can contact their nearest police station, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS App to provide information anonymously.”
