Started by MaryAnne and Cyril Shaw after many years of ballroom and Latin American dancing, Shaw All Stars offers an opportunity to step onto the dance floor, learn the basic moves and gradually build confidence. There is no need to be an experienced dancer or have a natural sense of rhythm. The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment and learning at your own pace.

Geldine Shaw, of Shaw All Stars, said their line dancing is open to everyone and is an amazing event to attend. “You can have two left feet or be a professional, you will enjoy it thoroughly,” she said. “Beginners, experts, professional dancers – everyone just loves it. It’s just a nice way of interacting with people, and it’s fun.” She explained that they hold the rights to use the Texas music and belong to the Texas Line Dancing Association, having been part of it for many years.

Line dancing is also a fun way to exercise without the feeling of being stuck in a traditional fitness routine. The steps keep the body moving, improve co-ordination and provide an enjoyable way to stay active. Just as importantly, dancing offers an opportunity to switch off, forget about daily stresses and enjoy the moment.

Beyond the physical benefits, the group provides a platform for social connection. Friendships are formed, confidence grows, and generations come together in an atmosphere of encouragement and laughter. They also cater for functions, events and parties. “We have a monthly function here at the hall, and everyone is welcome,” said Shaw. “We will teach you how to do the dances. We just have fun.”
