Randpark Ridge line dancer Jean Levy shows age is no barrier at 89

An 89-year-old Randpark Ridge resident is keeping fit, making friends, and finding joy on the dance floor through regular line dancing.

At 89 years old, Jean Levy is living proof that age is just a number and that staying active can bring joy at every stage of life.
With a love for music, movement, and laughter, Levy continues to embrace life through line dancing at Shaw All Star in Randpark Ridge, finding happiness in every step.

Being active has always been an important part of her life. As a teenager, she enjoyed playing soccer and keeping fit, while music and dancing were passions that brought her excitement and happiness. Her enthusiasm for movement continued into adulthood, and at 50, she became involved in Parkrun, demonstrating her determination to maintain an active lifestyle.

She explained that she started dancing when she was about eight, exploring different types of dancing. She did tap dancing, ballet, and Scottish dancing, but stopped when she was 18. “I have always loved music. I have always loved to dance at parties, and my kids love it, so we have always enjoyed being together,” says Levy. “It is just amazing, and this line dancing is lovely because it is not too much for older people. They can cope.”

Today, she still walks an impressive 3km every day, making exercise a regular part of her routine. However, it is line dancing that brings a special sparkle to her days. For Levy, it is about much more than exercise; it is an opportunity to enjoy music, share laughter, connect with others and experience the simple pleasure of being alive. “I love it. I love the people that we dance with, and it just makes me feel alive,” she says. “I had a lot of falls, bad falls, and I was very unsteady, and this helped me through everything. It helped me get my balance.”
