School in North Riding announces its leaders for 2023, focusing on inspiring the next group
The school appoints a head leader, two co-deputies and seven heads of committees.
Cooper College excitedly announced their 2023 head leaders during an intimate ceremony with learners, staff and parents of the nominees present.
The leaders were elected in a fair-voting ballot in which teachers and learners had the opportunity to vote for their best candidate.
“[American president] John Quincy Adams once said that you are a leader when your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more,” said the school’s executive head Hesna Muller.
“Congratulations to our leaders/game-changers for 2023. Let your collective action have the same effect on others and make them dream, learn, do, and become more. We are extremely proud of you.”

Head of the high school Jacques Janse van Rensburg said he was excited to have a diverse and passionate team of learners committed to facilitating growth and responsibility.
“Following a democratic voting process that included applying for a position, canvassing both on flagpole posters and in-person speeches, all learners and staff had the opportunity to vote for the leaders,” he said.
“This direct representation offers accountability. Cooper College, being a Curro Select school, will be engaging with other Curro learner leaders to foster collaboration and cooperation. This aligns with our mission to create future leaders.”
Deputy head of the high school Claire Venter said there was a head leader, two co-deputies and seven heads of committees.

“The seven committee chairs will each select another four learners to work alongside them on the committees,” Venter said.
“We will also have councillors from each class to work with the leaders. Aman Harripersadh will focus on mental health for his tenure as the head leader.”
Sammy Chulu, the master in charge of the leaders referred to the quote by Andrew Carnegie (Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist}: ‘True leaders always practise the three Rs: Respect for self; respect for others; and responsibility for all their actions.”
He wished the leaders the best of luck for next year and hoped they would carry the three Rs with them wherever they went.
