Sharonlea Primary School athletes win medals representing Randburg cluster
The school has asked for donations for running shoes for athletes ahead of provincial competition.
Sharonlea Primary School will soon compete in its first-ever Gauteng Schools League athletics meeting after the success of its sprinters in the Johannesburg North Championships, which earned them qualification.
The smile was genuine and there was no mistaking pride in the voice of the school’s sports coordinator Phillip Mlambo as he boasted of the success of his athletes.
“They were representing the Randburg cluster at the cluster championships and competition was tough because we were going against runners with spikes and starting blocks while our guys were running barefoot,” he said.
“They gave 110% and I am so proud. We cannot wait for the Gauteng meeting.”
The provincial athletics meeting will be held in Germiston in mid-March and the school has asked the public for donations towards equipping its runners with starting blocks and running shoes.
