SA men’s hockey cruise to first victory

MALANSHOF – The SA men’s hockey team thrashed Zimbabwe in their opening game in the Greenfields African Hockey Championship.

The South Africa men’s hockey team took on Zimbabwe at the Greenfields African Championship at the Randburg Hockey stadium on 23 October.

SA showed a clear and fresh intent on winning, by scoring a goal within the first few minutes. This however did not deter Zimbabwe, who continued to put up a strong defensive and attacking front.

SA Captain and midfielder Tim Drummond lead his team in a clean game that balanced both precision and shier force.  Throughout the game it was obvious which team had the upper hand and SA dominated against the less-experienced Zimbabwe.

SA’s fast plays did not allow Zimbabwe enough time to use their possession of the ball. The final whistle blew with SA winning 16–0.

Goal scorers:

Matt Guise-Brown – 5

Lloyd Norris Jones – 3

Pierre de Voux – 2

Brandon Panther – 2

Natius Malgraff – 2

Richard Pautz and Dan Sibbald –1

Matches on 24 October:

2.30pm South Africa versus Nigeria (women)

4.45pm South Africa versus Botswana (men)
