UJ overpowers Crusaders FC in 8-goal league clash

A goalless opening half between Crusaders and UJ gave way to a dramatic scoring frenzy as fatigue set in for the visitors.

Crusaders FC endured a difficult afternoon away to the University of Johannesburg (UJ), as the hosts displayed total dominance in the Rand Central Local Football Association division 1.

From the opening whistle, UJ looked the more confident side, moving the ball with purpose, rotating positions and finding each other with ease. Their composure and fluid passing made life difficult for Crusaders, who struggled to gain a foothold in the game.
Despite their dominance and attacking pressure, the hosts went into the break frustrated, with the scoreboard reading 0–0.

In a surprising twist, Crusaders drew first blood after the restart, briefly threatening to turn the game on its head, but UJ responded almost immediately with an equaliser, restoring order and momentum. As the game wore on, fatigue began to creep into the Crusaders players, and UJ sensed their opportunity and ruthlessly capitalised, scoring three goals in quick succession to race into a commanding 4–1 lead.

Crusaders refused to surrender. They continued pushing forward and managed to find another goal, showing determination despite the mounting pressure. However, UJ had the final say, striking twice more to seal an important 6–2 victory and claim all three points.

Crusaders coach Lefa Makunyana admitted it was a tough lesson against a confident and clinical UJ side. “It was a difficult game, and the heat didn’t make it easy for us. We played in moments, which was not convincing. They had a better second half, and they capitalised on our mistakes.”
