First RACF women’s football practice
MALANSHOF –Young and old women’s football is hot at RAFC.
The 2016 Randburg Football Club (RAFC) women’s pre-season training started on 1 January.
At 6.30pm promptly, Theo Buttress convener and coach of the RAFC women’s football team welcomed new and old players to the season. Many fresh players started their football journey after visiting the open day on 28 November when Banyana Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk addressed the players.
The first session started off with a rigorous training season to dust away the cobwebs and build up after the December holiday. Players aged between 11 to 45 years practised a number of football drills aimed at improving passing skills and co-ordination.
Buttress then addressed parents and players about his hopes for the club in 2016. The overall mission and vision was communicated as follows: mission, “To be the most recognised women’s amateur football club in South Africa”, and the vision, “To play at the highest competitive level possible in five years, three years and one year”.
He further explained in detail how he sees the teams progress from the preparatory phases into the competitive phase, the first transitional phase, second preparatory phase and then final competitive phase in the 2016 season.
RAFC started with its girls’ and women’s programme three years ago, and it has developed in leaps and bounds with all intention to fulfill its mission and vision through sheer determination, motivation, drive and passion.
It was a well-attended first practice with well over 35 excited players present.
Training nights are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 8pm weekly. “Any female athlete or aspiring footballer or even someone who wants to get fit and live a healthy lifestyle by playing football, is welcome to join,” concluded Buttress.
