The St Stithians girls squash team triumphed at the Central Gauteng Top Schools Squash Tournament.
Squash coach Cindy Purchase said that their team was invited to play in the tournament and that the girls played with pride.
“The St Stithians team of six players battled it out over three days playing against St Mary’s School Waverly, Roedean School and Northcliff. Some inspiring and excellent squash was played by all the girls,” Purchase said.
“St Stithians can be proud of the girls who played. Most of them have developed their games through practice and have nurtured and motivated their talent since Grade 4,” she added.
She pointed out that this was the first time that the St Stithians girls squash team won this tournament, and that this year presented the best possible chance, which all the girls embraced. “It is especially significant for us as the St Stithians College girls’ schools celebrates 21 years this year,” she noted.
Purchase, added that the squash team would now go to the regional Top Schools Tournament in Pietermaritzburg from 30 July to 1 August.
