Randburg FC U15 and Future of Africa Academy battled to a thrilling 2–2 draw in a Gauteng Development League (GDL) encounter marked by momentum, resilience and missed opportunities.

Future of Africa coach Abayomi Adebayo commended his troops for walking away with a point at the Randburg Sport Complex, saying the game was enjoyable for the fans and his players showed character and resilience. “We create a lot of chances, but we do not score,” said Adebayo. “We could have done better and walked away with maximum points. That has been our downfall throughout the season. We are working on it. The GDL is not easy, and we need to do better at converting chances.”

Both teams displayed an entertaining game of football with endless attacking plays from both sides. Randburg FC took control early, producing a promising attack down the right flank that left the Future of Africa defence scrambling. Midfielder McNeil Zinzombe raced into space before unleashing a shot that struck the post. Hiborne Mahachi reacted quicker and tapped it in to give the hosts a well-deserved 1–0 lead.

With the advantage in hand, the home side took their foot off the pedal. That lapse of concentration allowed Future of Africa back into the game. They refused to back down and began asking more questions, pushing forward with growing confidence. Their persistence was rewarded before the break, as Zain Maxwell found an equaliser, completely changing the mood of the contest. Future of Africa returned for the second half with belief and soon turned the game on its head. Kamohelo Matima found himself unmarked in the box and headed home their second goal of the afternoon, putting Randburg on the back foot (1–2).

The goal was a slap on the wrist for the Randburg youngsters. They were not prepared to surrender their home advantage. They slowly regained their composure, becoming more patient and purposeful in possession. They moved the ball around the attacking half, waiting for the opening rather than forcing the play.

A desperate challenge from the Future of Africa defence inside the box handed Randburg a penalty. Phaledi Nke kept his nerve from the spot and restored the scoreline to 2–2.

Neither side could find a winning goal in the closing stages, and the match ended all square, with both teams sharing the spoils after an exciting battle. For Randburg, it was a lesson in maintaining concentration; for Future of Africa, proof that persistence can turn a difficult start into a point.
