Rand Park back in the A league

RANDPARK RIDGE – Rand Park High School returns to the athletics A League for 2017.

Rand Park High School succeeded in winning the B League Inter-High Athletics meeting to earn promotion to the schools’ A league.

The event was held at Germiston Stadium on 29 August and saw Rand Park dominate the three other schools in the league to move up and return to the A league for the 2017 athletics season.

The school’s B team also competed in their inter-high athletics meeting held a day later, and won. They, too, advance to the A league for the forthcoming season.

Reynier Coertzen, deputy principal and dean of sport at Rand Park High School said, “Over the past two seasons, they have proved to themselves that they are champions and I am immensely proud of them for winning in style and with character.”

He said the school’s athletes worked hard this season. They committed themselves to pre-season training and daily training with the coaches to build their strength, stamina and endurance levels. “Athletics is generally not a popular sport due to the commitment and effort it requires to succeed. Despite experiencing what it is like to lose meetings like the inter-high in the past, our athletes decided to show they want to excel in life,” added Coertzen.

The final scores for the A-League Inter-High meeting were:

Rand Park High School – 246 points

Edenvale High – 169 points

Glenvista High School – 135.5 points

Mondeor High School – 127.5 points.
