LINDEN – Junior swimmers are invited to Linrand Swimming Club's Mini 'Lympics.

It is nearly time again for the Linrand Swimming Club’s 27th annual Mini ‘Lympics, and about 300 young swimmers are expected to splash at this prestigious junior gala.

Swimmers aged 6–10 are all invited to the event at the Linden Swimming Pool on 30 October, said René Botha of the club committee. “‘I am so excited about the upcoming Mini ‘Lympics. We have some wonderful sponsors this year which will make this gala better than ever,” she said.

Her daughter, Abigail (7), will swim in the breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly events . “I am very excited because I love swimming and always have fun when I go,” said the youngster, who has been swimming for close to three years, and hopes to win all her events.

The events are as follows:

  • 25m Breaststroke
  •  25m Backstroke
  •  25m Freestyle
  •  25m Butterfly
  •  100m Individual medley (only ages 9–10)

Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each category, and ribbons are awarded to the top eight. There will also be other sponsored prizes, including gift vouchers from a toy shop, bags and water bottles.

“I invite all young swimmers to come write their names on trophies along with many other great swimmers,” said coach, Penny Quinlan, who added that the stand-alone gala sees swimmers from all over the province participate each year.
