A smashing weekend of cricket

RANDPARK RIDGE – It was a weekend full of runs and wins for the Rand Park High School cricketers.

The Rand Park High School cricketers made their school proud with excellent results from a string of matches on 22 and 23 October.

Rand Park played three games against Krugersdorp High School on 22 October – Rand Park’s 1st, U15A and U14A teams all succeeded in winning their games.

Rand Park’s 1st team set the standard when they batted first and scored 328 for seven wickets in 40 overs. Krugersdorp batted second and was bowled out for 135 runs, giving Rand Park the win by a total of 193 runs.

In the second game, Krugersdorp’s U15A team batted first and scored 82 all out, before Rand Park reached the target with the loss of just two wickets.

In the third game, the Krugersdorp U14A players batted first and scored 196 for three in 30 overs. Rand Park reached 197 for three wickets, thus winning by seven wickets.

“We always welcome the opportunity to compete against Krugersdorp High and acknowledge them for hosting the matches over the weekend. They were competitive and professional, as always, and challenged our players to perform well,” said Rand Park’s sports co-ordinator and cricket coach, Steve Adelaine.

The Best of the West T20 tournament was held the next day. Rand Park competed against several strong cricket schools. Rand Park lost to Fourways High School and Alberton High School, but beat Hoërskool Dinamika and Hoërskool Marais Viljoen to win the plate trophy.

Hoërskool Noordheuwel won the overall trophy for the tournament. Rand Park’s Cameron Brunner was named batsman of the tournament, scoring 137 runs in the three games.
