RUIMSIG – The Puma School of Speed brought athletes from all over Gauteng together. Hoerskool Randburg athletes offer insightful tips to other athletes.

The Puma School of Speed held an athletics meeting at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium where about 1 000 athletes from Johannesburg, North West and KwaZulu-Natal came together to prove who is the best on the track.

The competition was open to all athletes under 19 years old and the prize for the winners was a year-long contract from Puma, as well as bragging rights.

Hoerskool Randburg athletes who made it to the 400m finals had some advice for potential athletes who want to make it to the top of their game.

Tips:

• Always attend all training sessions. Do not miss training on Mondays

• Follow a healthy diet. Try and eat pasta and steak the night before a race

• Run barefoot if you are training on grass

• Wear track spikes if you are training on the track; it helps with grip

• Always listen to your coach; they probably know best

• Ensure that you do your warm-ups properly to avoid potential injury

• Don’t give up on your dreams; keep on trying no matter what.
