Robin Hills shares on its anchor to triumph

RAND PARK – Robin Hills Primary school is the top english school for athletics winning six out of six events.

Robin Hills Primary School is proudly the top English school in Johannesburg for their unbeaten record in athletics.

Royston Sanders, the sports master of the school, said they recently beat Sharonlea, Bryandale, Rivonia and Constantia primary schools at the Prestige Games. These four schools, along with Robin Hills, are in the top five of the city.

As term three marks the start of the athletics season, Sanders said no time was spared in preparation for the various events that would take place throughout the term. He added that practice was held twice a week and meets were held at various schools.

When asked what makes a good athlete, Sanders said dedicated teachers and athletes were a must for a successful team.

“A good working team is important as it enforces discipline and pride for the school,” he said.

Sanders added that talent was only part of an athlete’s success because one needed to put in the effort too. He said athletes might at times feel pushed at practices but the pressure paid off when they walked away winners.

Sanders explained that most of the children who attended the school did not necessarily come from affluent homes and that some might face struggles not common to everyone.

“But when they get on the field they just flourish because this is what they enjoy and it gives them a lot of self-worth. When they get to school and do something awesome it motivates them even further and you see the difference in the classroom as well.”

His hope for the sports department is that the children’s love for various sports continued as sport had a way to spill into most aspects of life as a good force
