Saints youngster wins gold in Flint archery competition
LYME PARK – A St Stithians youngster took part in an unusual type of archery event.
Connor Young competed in the International Field Archery Association’s Flint Round, an unusual type of archery, reminiscent of scenes taken from The Hunger Games movie.
The St Stithians learner won the gold medal in his first-ever flint competition in Kempton Park, placing first in his category on 8 September.
Young said, “It was fun to compete in the Flint competition, which is different from traditional archery as you shoot from different distances.
“During the first round, I nearly missed my first two arrows but made a great improvement afterwards. It was an amazing competition.”
The IFAA’s Flint round requires participants to shoot a total of 56 arrows, with distances to shoot much longer than in the standard rounds and smaller target faces.
In the round, two groups of arrows are shot, each consisting of 28 arrows, giving a total of 56 arrows.
Archers must be able to shoot four arrows in three minutes and be able to set their sights for the next distance.
