Randburg’s home run
PRAEGVILLE – A local baseball outfit has been serving Randburg for seven years, and in that time helped many players on to the Major League.
The Panthers baseball outfit has been faithfully serving enthusiasts of the sport in Randburg for seven years.
Whether helping youngsters take the step from wannabee baseball players to the Gauteng Major League or helping players perfect their pitching or batting technique, the team at the Randburg Sports Complex has done it all.
Panthers share a field with the Randburg Mets, and the Mix and Match baseball outfits.
They play games in the Minor League but these provide great opportunities for players to develop their skills, according to team manager, Adrian Peach.
“We have had players who have started playing here who have gone up [to bigger leagues], which is what we basically strive to do,” Peach said before a match against the Boksburg Cardinals.
He added that the team’s current season has not gone well but many new players have put up their hands and played well.
“We have lost a lot of support and players over the years due to school sports, but it seems like it’s starting to pick up again now that the [South African players] are playing more baseball overseas. We are getting more exposure over there.”
Peach added that dedication and team spirit were the only ingredients needed for a person to become a good baseball player.
He concluded by inviting anyone interested in finding out more about the Panthers to either phone him or come down to practices at the club from 6pm on Fridays.
