Athletes are happy to be back at I Have Talent Sports Academy
As the sun starts to set, athletes find energy for for a few more throws, jumps and runs after a long break during the hard lockdown, on a typical weekday afternoon.
Runners are once again running, hurdlers are once again jumping hurdles, javelin throwers are once again throwing javelins and long jumpers are once again jumping into the landing pit.
This is all happening at I Have Talent Sports Academy at Randburg Sports Complex.
As the sun starts to set, athletes find energy for for a few more throws, jumps and runs after a long break during the hard lockdown, on a typical weekday afternoon.
“We are ecstatic to be back, we missed the athletes and our coaches so much,” said the academy’s managing partner and long jump coach, Leandri Willis.
“Yes, our parents are so relieved to be back, they love watching the children interact with their friends at the academy, being active after being home for so long and just doing what their children love.”
Still, the academy has not taken any chances with the safety of athletes and their parents.
While athletes do not have to wear face masks while training, some of their parents opt to as they watch on from the stands.
The athletes’ temperatures are also taken before training and they have to answer questions relating to having any symptoms of Covid-19.
They must also sanitise their hands before training starts.
Then it is all smiles and fun as the youngsters do what they love most with their friends.
“We are working towards the Central Gauteng Athletics Championships in October. The athletes who qualify there will compete at Interprovincial champs in November.”
