Wrestler wins jiu-jitsu tournament
BORDEAUX – Local wrestler enters his first jiu-jitsu competition and wins.
Dominick Aoun won the very first jiu-jitsu competition he entered.
The 12-year-old Bordeaux resident dominates the wrestling scene but after a quiet lockdown decided to enter the South African ADCC Great Northern Challenge, a tournament hosted by the Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling Association of South Africa in Paulshof on 15 and 16 May.
Dominick registered for the age group U11–U14 and under 40kg.

His first match was against Bhubesi Kruger, who was selected to be on the South African Amateur Youth MMA Squad for 2021.
Dominck landed a beautiful drop seoi nagi (drop shoulder throw) which lead to a back take and a very tight armbar getting the submission and beating his opponent in just 23 seconds.
A few matches later Dominick was in the final against Arno Carstens. As the referee marked the start, the athletes were inter-locked. Dominick landing a hip throw straight into the mount position which then transitioned into an attempted reversal by Arno. However, Dominick had already started to put on a triangle from the bottom position.

This resulted in a tap-out within 45 seconds of the match and Dominick winning the gold.
Dominick had been training twice a day with his father, Fadi Aoun, before school and had some high-intensity private sessions with coach Storm Conrad.

The sky is the limit for the young gun as overseas competitions may be in the pipeline for the up-and-coming Brazilian jiu-jitisu practitioner.
Dominick recently joined the Gracie Barra Illovo (GBI) competition team, under Professor Yron Kairon dos Santos, coach Storm Conrad and coach James Gemmell. Dominick has only been training in jiu-jitsu for a month under GBI but is undefeated.
