Olivedale Tennis Club hosts mini masters match play tournaments

OLIVEDALE – Young tennis players serve up a show at mini masters match play tournaments.


Youngsters have been having fun honing their tennis skills and competing against each other at Olivedale Tennis Club.

Get Set Play’s weekly training sessions in Olivedale to culminate in mini masters match play events, which pit players of similar skill against each other regularly at both Olivedale and Fairland tennis clubs.

Players are sorted into green, orange and red ball categories, irrespective of their ages, as they learn the intricacies of the great game that is tennis.

“The kids have been having fun at the tournaments as with all sports, competition drives players to new levels,” said Resnia de Lange, owner of Get Set Play.

“They see that their practice during the week bears fruit. Some of them are getting ready for nationals so the matches are good practice and many have shown improvement.”

The tennis academy uses the Universal Tennis Rating system so players can compare their skills to others across the world.

The global rating system uses results from matches across age, gender, geography and skill level to fairly accurately rate players against each other.

Get Set Play has organised an adult squad to play at Olivedale every Wednesday morning from 7am to 8am.

The next mini masters match play events will be held at Fairland Tennis Club, with the Olivedale players travelling there to play The orange and red ball sections will have their mini master match play event on 29 May; the open, social and veterans tournament will be on 5 and 6 June; and the green ball tournament will be on 12 and 13 June.
