Taekwondo outfit excited for nationals

FERNDALE – Jast Academy taekwondo practitioners aim to do their best in Pretoria.


A local taekwondo academy is proud of its seven members who have qualified to represent their province in the national championships.

Johanna Abueng Sekgwelea Taekwondo (Jast) Academy has secured qualification for seven of its practitioners between the ages of seven and 18 years, in the South African Taekwondo Federation National Championships and the 2021 Korean Ambassador Cup.

The events will be held at the University of Pretoria in late October.

“The competitions will feature kyorugi (sparring) and poomsae (patterns),” 3rd dan black belt instructor, Abueng Sekgwelea explained.

“All seven of my students will compete in kyorugi. It has been exciting to prepare for the competition because we have not had a lot happening recently.”
