Linden boxer wins two titles after a thrilling heavyweight fight

This gave Keaton Gomes the South African and African Boxing Union heavyweight champion titles.

In an epic heavyweight encounter, Linden’s Keaton Gomes outgunned Sandton’s Chris Thompson to stop the latter in six thrilling rounds to win national and continental titles.

This was at the Young Guns Boxing Tournament at Emperors Palace’s Centre Court.

Gomes came out guns blazing at the start and had Thompson in trouble, immediately sending his opponent to the canvas in the first round.

The Sandton heavyweight managed to recover and slowly got back into the fight taking control in the fifth and early in the sixth rounds.

The Linden boxer had other ideas, however, and with a few well-aimed right hooks sent Thompson to the canvas again to win the fight after 2:59 in the sixth round.

The victory earned Gomes the South African and African Boxing Union heavyweight champion belts ending his year on a high note.
