Randburg FC host U12 tournament in honour of the late coach Joe

Coach Roger Nikin explained that due to the success of the tournament, there will be considerations to make it an annual event.

Randburg Football Club hosted its end-of-the-season tournament in honour of the late coach Joe Mosethle.
The Joe Masethle Challenge Cup was the idea of Kevin Mudie from Randburg AFC and Gordon Naidoo from the Rand Central Central Local Football Association (RCLFA). Both worked with Mosethle at Randburg AFC since the 1990s, and he had a special place in their hearts for all the hard work and development he put into football at the club.

Coach Joe had a passion for coaching youngsters and therefore the tournament consisted of the best U12 teams in the RCLFA. To honour Mosethle, the Randburg FC U12s played as the Joe Mosethle team.
Development teams from Mamelodi Sundowns, Panorama, Stars of Africa, and Wits participated. Meadowlands FC, Palacios FC and Robertsham were teams from outside of the RCLFA which also competed.
The final was tightly contested between Sundowns 2, which beat a strong Panorama FC team in the first semifinal, and Stars of Africa, which beat the favourites Sundowns 1 in the other. Despite a resolute display by Stars of Africa, Sundowns 2 won 2–0 to clinch the title.

Randburg U12 coach Roger Nikin said, “The preparation for the tournament as well as the organisation on the day was well executed. Supporters came in their numbers, and many spoke about their experiences and interactions with Joe. It was a great tribute to Joe.

“It was a great way to honour someone who spent most of his life in football development. Most of the Randburg AFC U12 boys who played in the tournament came through him at some stage of their time at the club.”
