Randburg kids ace winter tennis tournament

Advantage Tennis Academy wrapped up a successful winter clinic this week, with young players already eyeing the next tournament.

Randburg Tennis Club served up a week of fun and fierce competition as more than 30 young players took part in the Advantage Tennis Academy winter clinic, held from Tuesday to Thursday.

Coach Gareth Gibson said the turnout exceeded expectations, with children arriving in numbers alongside their friends for the multi-day programme.

Players were split into different sections and spent hours working on their strokes and technique before testing their skills in a mini tournament.

Gibson said the clinic combined hard work with plenty of laughs. Crazy sock day and funky hair day proved popular additions to the schedule, with young players showing up in wild socks, coloured gel and eye-catching hairstyles.

Prizes on offer for the best outfits helped keep energy and excitement levels high throughout the week, even as chilly winter weather set in.

Despite the cold, the enthusiasm never dipped. Section winners on the day included Adriano Palacious and Daniel Pieters in section one, Jayden Schlebusch and Johann du Preez in section two, and Benji Vosloo and Jacob Faurie in section three.

Gibson said the academy is already gearing up for its next event. A follow-up tournament will run from July 14 to July 16, during the final week of the school holidays.

Younger players will take to the mini court from 08:00 to 09:00, while older children will compete on the full court from 09:00 to 12:30.

With one successful clinic already in the books, Gibson and his team at Advantage Tennis Academy said they are looking forward to welcoming even more young players back onto the court.
