MOVIE REVIEW: Redemption
Reader Craig Steyn reviews new Jason Statham film Redemption on behalf of the Randburg Sun and Ster-Kinekor Northgate.

Genre: Crime drama
Running time: 100 minutes
Starring: Jason Statham (Transporter), Agata Buzek ( In the Bedroom ), Vicky McClure ( Line of Duty )
Director: Steven Knight (Locke)
RATING:
Currently screening at Ster-Kinekor Northgate.
PLOT: While on the run from being court martialed, an ex-special forces soldier disappears amongst the homeless on the lonely, back-end streets of London. By chance, he assumes the identity of an out-of-town man and temporarily lives in the lap of luxury. To make a living, he takes a job as the right-hand man of a shady crime boss, and becomes an unlikely guardian angel in the process.
THE GOOD: Statham pulls off the dramatic title role with ease, and Buzek is flawless in her supporting role as the Catholic nun. This is not your usual redemption-guy type of film, with little action and a lot of emotion, allowing you to connect with the characters.
THE BAD: Very little in terms of action, particularly what one has come to expect from a Jason Statham film. Don’t let the trailer fool you!
VERDICT: Redemption is a clever Crime Drama about the dark and shady world of crime and life on the streets of London. Although this is a Jason Statham film, don’t expect a lot in terms of action or you will be disappointed. It is a refreshingly new role for Statham, and not his usual skull crunching action flieks. A good film, if watched with an open mind.
