Randburg’s Bouwer Bosch to hit the big screen

In between the suburbs of Windsor East and Robindale lives Christian musician and actor, Bouwer Bosch, who stars in the latest Afrikaans dark comedy, Vuil Wasgoed.

Bosch has lived in Randburg for the past three years. “It’s my favourite place I’ve stayed at ever… I love the thunderstorms and the buzz at night,” he said.

While Bosch lives in the area, he told Randburg Sun he has no local shows coming up. “[N]othing yet, unfortunately. Just holiday shows at the coast,” he said.

The Christian rocker is known for his music but has recently starred alongside his university friend, Bennie Fourie, in Vuil Wasgoed.

Bosch explained that wanting to tell stories that one doesn’t often get to see in South Africa is the reason he made the transition to film.

“My friend and I attempted this movie and produced it with our friend Danie Bester,” Bosch explained.

The film is a dark comedy which Bosch explains is his as well as his friends’ favourite genre.

“[W]e have not seen a lot of it in Afrikaans in South Africa. Comedy is a very powerful genre to cross bridges and just to make people forget about all the negativity in South Africa for an hour and a half,” he said.

When asked if South Africa will be seeing more of Bosch in the film industry he promised another offering in 2018 and thereafter he will be focusing more on his music.

He explained that music is still a top priority and that it had to take a backseat while he was filming.

While the film trailer itself is exciting and seems like a lot of fun, Bosch explained that filming was very hard work.

He said filming took about five weeks and during those five weeks, one works long hours which is physically draining.

“[I]t was draining but the rewards at the end are amazing and we are very excited to share it with everyone,” he said despite all the hard work especially with taking on more than one role in the film.

The movie will hit South African cinemas on 8 December and promises to be a hit among Afrikaans dark comedy lovers.
