How local scriptwriter lives her passion
ROBINDALE – Vosloo’s passion and aspirations to tell heart-warming stories drove her to create her own work.
Lizé Vosloo realised early in her career that if she wanted to have constant work in the entertainment industry she would have to create her own work and dream up her own projects.
The scriptwriter from Robindale wanted to live out her passion. “So I started writing. I wanted to tell heart-warming stories. And I believe that all my stories that I write have that in common,” she said.
Vosloo, a South African Film and Television Awards (Safta)-nominated scriptwriter and filmmaker has written scripts for major feature films, television series and more than 30 theatre productions.
She has also directed numerous TV movies of which Home Affairs: A Christmas Tale was nominated for the Safta award in the Best TV Film category.
She reckoned that she initially wanted to be an actress and director.
“I didn’t think I would be able to write. I just never explored that path. But once I put my head down and started writing I soon discovered my passion for it and I have never looked back.”
With a writing and producing background, Vosloo started her own business, Redhead Productions, about 12 years ago.
The Redhead Productions specialises in educational theatre productions at schools.
“It is because of one of my shows, Boek Buddies, in which we perform extracts from books in order to encourage kids to read, that I came across a Jaco Jacobs book Oor ‘n motorfiets, ‘n zombiefliek en langgetalle wat deur elf gedeel kan word. As soon as I put the book down I knew I had to make a movie about the beautiful story. And so I adapted the book into the film script called Nul is nie Niks nie. I was also one of the producers of this film,” she said.
From there onwards, she adapted Annelie Botes’ book Raaiselkind and started writing for TV series like Mense Mense, Alles Malan and Inconceivable. The latest series she worked on as scriptwriter and storyliner are Wounds and Projek Dina 2.
She has also written and directed a couple of TV films with Penguin Films as the production company.
Vosloo is one of the scriptwriters of Klein Karoo 2 which is set to debut on DSTV Box Office on December 15.
