Man with unlicensed firearm and ammunition busted

The man is expected to appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates' Court soon.

A 39-year-old man is expected to appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court after he was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Simunye on Friday 28 August.

According Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the man was arrested when police were patrolling the area. She said the suspect who carried a backpack refused to cooperate when the police asked to search him.

When police found a firearm wrapped in a T-shirt and ammunition inside the bag, he tried to run, but the police managed to capture him after giving chase,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Phumelele Matamela, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the members for a job well done and for the dedication they showed when conducting their duties, as illegal firearms are used in crimes within Bekkersdal.
