Residents pray for their communities on Mandela Day

I urge residents to stop whatever they are doing from 11am till 12.07 and pray with us in spirit.

The Afrikaans Taal en Kultuur in Vereeniging (ATKV) Toekomsrus branch will be having a 67 minutes prayer session on Mandela Day (18 July) and advises residents to pray wherever they are on the day in question.

According to ATKV chairman Lester Fritz, since Mandela Day will be on a working day, residents need to join hands spiritually and pray for common struggles that they face in their community.

“Everyone is facing different challenges in life and we thought that is best to engage with the community for 67 minutes.

“Throughout the months, we have asked residents to identify 67 reasons to pray on the day for the benefit of their community.

“Although a lot of reasons were identified, we have decided to focus on the common challenges,” says Fritz.

He adds that challenges that they will pray for are those of spiritual and physical wellbeing, substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, high school drop outs and crime among other scourges in their community.

“A lot of people will be doing different things on Mandela Day, but we as a community have decided to pray about our problems.

“I urge residents to stop whatever they are doing from 11am until 12.07 and pray with us.

“We understand that it all starts with God who strengthens us as a community, hence joining hands with our brothers and sisters is one of the many ways to alleviate community struggles,” says Fritz.
