Warning: Blasting operations begin tomorrow on R41

Motorists and nearby residents are urged to plan ahead as loud controlled blasts are expected to temporarily affect the R41 corridor on Thursday and Friday, during scheduled construction work.

Residents and motorists in Randfontein are advised to take note of upcoming blasting operations scheduled to take place at the Droogeheuwel Mega City Project, located along the R41.

According to a public notice issued by the project team, blasting activities are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, 4 to 5 June. These operations will take place between 14:00 and 16:00 on both days.

The controlled blasting forms part of ongoing construction work at the site as development continues on the large-scale Mega City project. While all necessary safety precautions will be in place, nearby residents and road users may experience loud noises, vibrations, and temporary disruptions during the scheduled times.

Blasting contractor Andre Myburgh confirmed that site preparations for the work are underway.

He explained the blasting procedure as follows: “Blasting signals will be given before the blast takes place. At the time of blasting, a siren will sound five minutes beforehand and the area will be evacuated. Flag men with danger boards will secure the area.

Following the blast, and once the area has been inspected and declared safe, one prolonged whistle signal of at least five seconds will be sounded to indicate that employees may return to the blasting area,” said Myburgh.

Members of the public are requested to remain calm during the blasting periods and to keep a safe distance from the designated work zones. Motorists travelling along the R41 are also encouraged to exercise caution and adhere to any temporary traffic control measures that may be implemented.

The project team has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the community for its cooperation as the development continues.

Residents are encouraged to share the notice with neighbours and stay informed to avoid unnecessary alarm during the blasting times.
