Know what to do ahead of winter every year

People often have a misconceptions about the flu and a cold and cannot differentiate between the two

Despite the winter season being almost over, Doctor Danie Erasmus from Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital gave a lecture at the West Rand District Municipality with regards to influenza (flu) and how to treat it on 12 July.

According to Erasmus, this comes after much confusion from the public about the flu and the lack of knowledge thereof every winter season

“People often have a misconceptions about the flu and a cold and cannot differentiate between the two.

“Come winter season, people fall ill as the season changes but most people don’t know that you can avoid the hectic coughing, sneezing and other symptoms that come with it.

“This can only be done by getting a vaccination ahead of time such as in April and May to ensure that when winter creeps in, you are sorted.

“Yes there is good but expensive medication in pharmarcies but instead of that, I strongly recommend a flu vaccine.

“So if you didn’t know, now you know ahead of next year’s winter but the trick with it is that it can only be taken prior to contracting flu and not when you have it.

“I would advise that you get vaccinated around April or May every year,” says Erasmus..

The floor was then open to the public to discuss traditional ways of treating influenza.

Despite the fact that there are different strokes for different folks, Erasmus advises that people take immunization as prevention is better than cure.
