NPO steps in after shack fire
After losing everything in a shack fire, a father and son are getting a fresh start thanks to Reaagile NPO’s efforts to rebuild their home.
A Mohlakeng organisation, Reaagile Disaster Toolkit and Shelter, is once again demonstrating the power of community support after stepping in to assist a father and his 13-year-old son who lost their belongings in a shack fire.
The organisation, which focuses on restoring shelter for vulnerable residents whose homes have been damaged or destroyed, responded swiftly after learning about the family’s situation. Left with only the clothes on their backs, the father and son were faced with an uncertain future.

Recognising the urgency of their need, Reaagile mobilised its resources and support network to help rebuild the family’s shack, sheltering them once again. The organisation also ensured that the young boy could return to school with dignity by supplying him with a new school uniform.

While their immediate shelter and schooling needs have been addressed, the family still requires additional support. Reaagile is appealing to the public for donations, particularly clothing, to help the father and son rebuild their lives after the fire.
Founder Koketso Jonathan said the organisation continues to play an important role in supporting vulnerable community members through practical interventions that restore hope and dignity following disasters such as fires, theft and structural damage. He added that the organisation’s work reflects a broader commitment to addressing everyday social challenges and providing relief to those in need.

Koketso encouraged community members, businesses and local stakeholders to support the family, emphasising that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.

With winter approaching and temperatures dropping, the need for warm clothing and other essentials has become increasingly urgent. Through collective community support, the organisation hopes to help the father and son move forward with renewed hope and stability.
