Another petrol price shock for motorists

It really feels as though we are working for petrol and nothing else.

The price of petrol is set to increase once again and motorists are urged to prepare themselves for tough times ahead.

This was announced by the Department of Energy which stated that the retail price of petrol is set to increase by a whopping 32 cents per litre on 7 July.

What this means is that a litre of petrol will cost consumers R13.55 and diesel will now cost R12.48

The price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 25c per litre and liquid petroleum gas will increase by 22 cents per kilogram.

This announcement comes shortly after the recent petrol hike in July which saw already cash-strapped motorists digging deeper into their pockets in order to get around.

According to motorist Celiwe Mhlongo, this announcement is frustrating and will be a headache to already struggling motorists.

“It has hardly been 30 days since the last hike and already we are expected to pay more just to get to work and back, never mind running errands.

“It really feels as though we are working for petrol and nothing else.

“Already most of us are drowning in debt in order to get by.

“In all honesty we cannot keep up and the relevant officials within the department and on national level need to intervene and implement ways to decrease the cost of living,” says Mhlongo
