Eleven injured in Randfontein taxi accident
The Herald can reveal that Randfontein emergency services were nowhere to be seen and arrived approximately 30 minutes later.
At least 11 people sustained minor injuries in a massive collision between two taxis on Main Reef Road near Westergloor on 10 December.
This was at 5.30 pm and it is understood that both taxis were fully laden at the time of the accident with 14 passengers each.
According to a paramedic at the scene Denver Ramnarain from Quick Response Service, one of the other taxis failed to apply its brakes and subsequently smashed into the back of another taxi.
Chairperson of the Randfontein Taxi Owners Association (RTOA)Thomas Mampe who was also at the scene of the accident says that fortunately no one sustained major injuries.
“At this point I cannot confirm what caused the accident but we are glad that no lives were lost,” says Mampe.
Randfontein emergency services were nowhere to be seen and arrived approximately 30 minutes after the accident had occurred.
A Quick Response Service ambulance was the first at the scene despite the fact that it was traveling from Pinehaven near Silverstar Casino.
This comes shortly after West Rand District Spokesperson Dennis Mangope admitted to a severe shortage of ambulances on the West Rand.
