Randfontein’s soldiers host fun walk for Youth Day

This was to interact with the unemployed youth of Randfontein and its surrounds and inform them on the opportunities available at the military camp. This is in line with their youth empowerment mandate.

The President Paul Kruger (RPK) military base in Randfontein hosted a successful youth day celebration with the youth of Randfontein and Toekomsrus on 13 June.

Among the activities presented, were tug of war, sack racing and a fun walk.

According to Major Elwin Langeloven, this was one way of reaching out to the unemployed youth of Randfontein.

“Apart from the fun and games that we played on the day, the actual purpose of the event was to have the youth of Randfontein interact with us where empowerment is concerned.

“Owing to this, we had a motivational talk with them and informed them of the opportunities we have here should they be interested.

“As it stands, we are currently training soldiers which we intend on deploying later this year.

“We are also in the process of recruiting other soldiers and that’s where they come in should they be interested,” says Langeloven who adds that the opportunities present are for West Rand residents.
