Unlicensed driver causes accident

Motorist injures himself in the process.

A motorist sustained minor injuries and received a heavy traffic fine of R1 000 after crashing into a minibus taxi over the weekend.

The accident took place on the corner of Fiat Street and Harred Road around 1pm.

According to a traffic officer on scene, Velaphi Gumede, the motorist was driving without a driver’s license when the incident occurred hence the heavy traffic fine.

“From what we understand, the man was travelling on Fiat Street when he failed to stop at the stop street in question,” Gumede said.

“As a result, he smashed into a minibus taxi travelling on Harred Road who had the right of way and injured himself in the process,” Gumede continued.

Fortunately, the minibus was not fully laden and the driver escaped unharmed.
